Normal size of the oil drain plug? 200 1979

I went to change the oil on my 79 244 dl, and was very surprised the oil drain plug was larger than my largest socket or wrench at 21mm. I am guessing it is a 23 or 24mm. I searched the forum and found a couple of posts referring to it as being a 17mm. What size is normal for my car? I was hoping someone could just tell me what the size of their oil drain plug is so I can pick up a socket on my way home from work. Thanks for the help, Paul.
