    Dear torrec57,

Good p.m. Further to javalion's post, the "tar type" caulking is butyl rubber. It can be had at: (a) automotive glass shops (they use it seal windshields) and (b) some automotive supply stores. It will come in a flat or a round cross-section, with a release paper. Clean the surface thoroughly with brake cleaner, to remove dirt and grease.

Leave the release paper on the caulk. Cut the right length. Press it into place. Then, peel the release paper and bed the plastic cover into the caulk.

    That's it: your done.

If you need instructions on the cowl removal, see the FAQs, or see an earlier post, where I set forth a step-by-step procedure.

Hope this gets you "high and dry".

    Yours faithfully,

    spook

The photo shows the cowl removed for the screen reattachment and...leaf raking.

The plastic cover on the near side just below the glass prevents water from dripping into the fan just below it. The plastic cover should be found sealed with a tar type calking. This is an easy check and worth a half hour or hour of your labor. Clean off the old calk and reattach with the same material. Before removing the wiper arms, mark it’s location on the windshield.

    Dear torrec57,

May this find you well. I recall posts, in which we were told that water came in through an air vent, located on the left-side of the driver's footwell. If you look through old posts, you should find this. That could be the source of the leak.

To dry out your car, you'll need to remove the front seats, and then the carpets. In my post on 9 January, regarding the installation of a powered seat, in a car that did not have them, I set forth a procedure for removing seats. In another post, I think before that one, I dealt with removing carpets. This is not hard to do. No special tools are needed.

WARNING: before you remove the driver's seat, disconnect the negative battery clamp from the terminal and put the clamp in a plastic bag. This prevents accidental airbag deployment, should the airbag sensor - located under the driver's seat - be thumped or banged. An airbag deployment is dangerous if you're nearby. Even if you're safe, replacing the airbag will cost about $1,000. A new sensor unit is about $1,200.

I'll be able to answer any questions you might have, after you read the procedures.

Removing the seats will enable you to remove the carpets, and allow them to air-dry. You might consider having the carpets laundered, to remove any traces of mold.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    spook

Are there any water stains on the headliner around the Moon roof? If so, perhaps one or more of the drain hoses for the moon roof's gutter system have become plugged.

Another possibility is that the drain hose may have come loose and is letting water run down the "A" pillar.

The windshield is the likely culprit here. look at the firewall in the corner on either side for traces of water leakage. if it is present you will need to have the windshield replaced or reinstalled and resealed

Where do you think it's coming from?

The thing you need to be careful about is mold inside your car, hard to get rid of and very bad smells (as well as not being healthy). There was just a caller on CarTalk on NPR last weekend from this woman who had a horrible smell whenever she openened her sunroof, the culprit was thought (by the Tappet brothers) to be mold. Per them, to get rid of it you have to use bleach (which would stain the carpet), heat (as in fire, but that would destroy your car), or direct sunlight.
