Interchangable aw30 / lexus (maybe) trans seal. 900

Soon i will be doing a trans fluid flush on the fam's 97 960.
I asked about this a little while ago, and i was instructed
to get some volvo certified sealant goo that happens to be very
expensive.

However I read from a post, (cant seem to find it again) that
a gasket/seal from a certain model lexus (i think it was) can
be used on the aw30 trans.

Would someone be able to recall exaclty what make, model and year it
was, so i can ask for the right thing. Other comments on the
matter would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Go easy on yourself, why mess with the pan. Just do the flush with quality synthetic. 45 mins. and virtually no mess. You will most likely not notice any difference changing the filter.

The filter screen is an extremely fine mesh and many times you can't even see that it's plugged. It's a good idea to replace it periodically. The fibers from the rag you use to wipe the dipstick off can even get stuck in it.

My filter was full of black crud when I changed it with 75K miles. You must change the filter if you want the flush to make any difference.

This really should be in the FAQ. The transmission Volvo refers to as AW30/40 is an Aisin Warner Transmission also used by Toyota. Toyota refers to it as A341E. It was used on the 90-94 Lexus LS400, 91-97 Toyota Supra Turbo (not NA), Toyota Previa superchaged.
Volvo uses a goo because it doesn't belive in flud flushed or changing the trasmission filter which is a bunch of bs. I went to NAPA auto parts and asked for a transmission filter kit for the LS400. It includes a real rubber gasket. You do not need the goo. Just have to scrape it off the bottom of the transmission and the tras pan. The whole kit including filter and gasket cost less than $30.
A word of caution. When you are re installing the trans pan, be very careful to not over torque screws. I broke one in the process. Good luck

Sorry, before people respond, let me clarify.
The goo I was instructed to use, I meant to say
that it was for the transmission pan to seal it
to the rest of the trans.

Thats all I want to deal with on this flush,
just the pan.

Thanks again
