HELP!!!! My Car Won't Start 700

My car is a 91' non turbo 740.

The car cranks over no problems, but it just wont start. I dove it yesterday and when I went to start it this morning, it just wouldnt tick over.

Normally when I turn the key to start, just before it ticks over, it makes a "sssssss" noise. Well what ever this noise is....it's not making that noise anymore. Does anyone know what this might be??

Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated???

Cheers

starter may be siezing, may want to try and tap it with a hammer, also in the left interior fender there is a balast, it is mounted on the fender, may need to be replaced, not enough information to go on, but the ssssss noise sounds like starter for sure. Hope it helps.

Also, as I keep saying in other posts, watch the tach needle while cranking. If it's dead, the problem is likely to be the RPM sensor. If it moves, I'd put money on the fuel pump relay. Regards.

I would start with the fuel pump relay first. It's easier to reach, and easier to fix.

I've seen at least one post recently claiming the tach wouldn't move while the engine was cranking on all Regnia equipped cars. If this is true then the crank position sensor may not be bad.

That's probably the fuel pump you're describing.
And since it's not running, the first culprit is the fuel pump relay. This lives in the front left of your fuse box- remvoe ashtray, cig lighter and coin tray to access.

See the 700 FAQ.- "Relay locations"

The second most likely thing is that your crank sensor (aka rpm sensor) is dead. This would be the likely case if you find that you also do not have spark. Removing the coil wire from the dist cap, and placing it over by the fender while the car is cranked over, is a good test for spark. Don't hold the end of the wire (I know I shouldn't have to tell you this, but I do it anyway.)

    Good luck!

HELP!!!! My Car Won't Start 700

The final culprit is the fuel pump itself..if you have a a regina sysytem..then you have only one fuel pump located in the tank itself. I made a post last week in detail so you may want to search for this otherwise if you cant find it I will fill you in ...Please let us know the outcome

Don't forget the ever-popular radio suppression relay.

One day, our '91 non-turbo quit because of crummy solder connections in the fpr.

      I resoldered it.

Two weeks later, the car quit again.

It was crummy solder connections in the rpr.

I resoldered every relay I could find in the car.

      It hasn't stumbled since.
