How does the leather shiftboot look in a non-leather interior car I ask because I was in the pick and pool today, and I recall seeing a nice one that I did not pick up. How do they install?

I installed one (a couple of minutes installation time) on my 1980 DL wagon. I love it. Had just installed a new rubber boot, kind of a shame to cover it up, but the black leather cover looks even better. Give the leather a cleaning and treatment before you put it on. My car is a DL, tan upholstery and door panels, black kick panels, center console. I also put good quality sheepskin seat covers on, for comfort and to hide the getting to be a little bit ratty driver's seat. I would say go back and pick up that shifter boot!

Nice Dice! Good ol' Kiwi shoe polish will make that boot look new again.

Just for grins, I called the dealer to find out what they want for the leather boot...$110.00. Right...

Found a good one on ebay for $10.00 then a week later found a brand new one at the PnP for $5.00.

The flash on the camera has exagerated the cracks and made my black seats grey. The shifter boot cover actually looks like it has a lot of character!!!

Cautionary note - be super careful when fitting the leather boot's lower edge with its plastic stiffener over the bottom fold of the present rubber accordion boot. All too easy to pull on the (old, tired) rubber boot and tear it out of the plastic "rivets" - usually the forward two - that fasten it to the trans tunnel. After that, it's almost inevitable that the boot will pull loose from under the carpet after a few gearshifts resulting in noise and fumes. New rubber boots are, what? $20? Ouch.

They look great and they were stock on some models with cloth seats like the turbos. A lot of Canadian 240 turbos have cloth seats, I assume, because leather is too cold on the butt in the winter.

They look nice, and take about 10 seconds to install. There's a snap at the top that allows it to slip on over the shift knob, and a zipper at the bottom that lets it open to slip the plastic retainer under the stock boot. Shine it up with a little leather treatment before you install, and you're set.
