wheel problem 120-130

I installed my Ford Ranger wheels (185/65-15 tires) yesterday, they are 15 x 7 and they look pretty good (deer hoof print pattern), could have used bigger wheels to better fill the wheel arches, oh well

however, I found the inside of the back right wheel touches the shock tower mounting point at the top of the fender

why would the back left wheel fit with lots of room between the wheel and the shock tower mount and the right wheel touch? the wheels are the same size

the wheel is visibly deeper into the wheel well also

did they make the car so the rear axle is offset? or has my rear suspension moved? is that possible, can it be corrected?

the tire company employee checked the two sides and he said it did not look like any damage and they looked identical but it definitely did not fit right

any suggestions?

Thanks
Robert

You might, on an odd chance that the wheels are different, check the wheel offset. I've found wheels that looked identical- except for offset- more than once.
    Long shot, tho...

If your car is lowered or maybe a little higher than stock, or maybe just the old springs are starting to sag, the lowered suspension will be a little to one side because of the panhard rod. There are adjustable panhard rods that you can use to recenter your rear axle... Others can elaborate, or you can ask and i may be able to offer more advice... But that's all i can say for now. Peace

That's probably it. The panhard rod will hold the axle in a sort of sideways arc as the suspension goes up and down. As designed it probably is only perfectly centered at some particular ride height - probably the original stock ride height. My PV sits a little low in the rear and the axlew isn't perfetly centered - I had to tweak the right fender a bit more than the left to get the 205/60/15 tires to fit.

    Hi Robert,
I was under the car one day and noticed some offset of the rear axle on my car. I measured it. It was about 1 cm out of center. Dunno if that's about the amount you're talking about though.
If your offset is about simular, its probably just fine, if it's a lot more there probably will be something wrong... Hmm, am I of any help?

    Cheers, Ben

        "is the 122 wheel a 5 on 4 1/2 with an offset of a -1 inch?"

You have the bolt-pattern correct, and older model ford wheels are supposed to work. I'm not certain about dodge. If you put on 6" wide wheels, you want to give have the wheels have about a 1" positive offset from what I hear.

Phil has an article at vclassics.com in the archives section on this topic. There is also a loooong thread on this very topic under one of these headings.

This has been a hot topic these last two months, look farther down in postings and you should be able to find lots of info about wheels that fit. Good luck!
