Wheel well Trim Source 200

I am about finished with a restoration of my 1988 240DL, 240K. I have been unable to locate the narrow trim which is afixed around each wheel well. If anyone knows of a source for new ones please let me know. Also, before I rip the old ones off, if anyone knows how they are attached it would be helpful. Thanks to everyone

I've seen the stuff at AutoZone - trim moulding tape.

I've found that zip ties make for easier cutting of the old foam than dental floss.

They should only be attached with foam tape.
As far as I know, it's aftermarket stuff- no DL models came with it.
SOme Goo-Gone or Goof-Off adhesive remover should remove the old adhesive without damaging the paint.

My wheel well trim (thin, oval shaped black cord-like plastic material) was attached with trim adhesive. Since one was missing and I could not find one like it ("that was dealer installed nearly 20 years ago"), I took off the other three and cleaned off with mineral spirits prior to painting car. I think the wheel wells look cleaner without them.....thankfully, my 740 does not have them installed..

How long have you had them off? I assumed they also served to protect the paint, and am wary about removing mine.

Like you I am concerned about removing the trim however, they have deteriotated over the years and look terrible. As I can't find them and assume that the dealer origanlly installed them I think I will try the fishing line trick and hope that the finish is still good under the trim. If not I will refinish them somehow and hope for the best. Thanks

No trim, no matter how it's attached, protects the paint, ultimately. Rather, it frequently provides a cozy breeding ground for tinworms...
