My idle dropped to base idle and the A/C compressor quit working at the same time. 2nd post....updated. 200 1985

The following is my original post. Now the idle always stays at base idle (no IAC)and the A/C is out. This problem was intermittent.

My car has started to do something strange.

I've noticed that after start-up, at times, the idle will stay at 700RPM and at the same time, I'll lose the A/C compressor. Like I'm losing power to the idle solenoid and the A/C controls. It will usually come on after a few minutes of driving.

The idle has always been real good (950 in gear). I keep the throttle body and solenoid clean. You can watch the idle go down and then up again when the A/C is turned on and the system is working normally.
This acts more like an electrical problem when it does happen.

I've checked the fuse but I don't think the two have much in common electrically....except maybe the ignition switch.

I used to hear a click near the ECA after just a few seconds of running but I don't hear that anymore. When I hear the click, the engine will react. Not in a bad way or good way.....it just reacts.

The FI schematic shows a A/C micro-switch in the system that goes to the ECA.
What is this??
Also, does the main relay do anything with the A/C??

Can anyone shine some light on this for me.

Thanks in a advance.

Well, I'm not so sure with your newer car, but on my '80 245 I'd probably start by checking the O2 sensor.

Maybe this doesn't apply to you, but you never know.

Good luck.
