Bulb out sensor relay 200 1986

My NA 240 sedan began blowing the brake fuse every time the pedal was depressed. I meter a short between the brake light switch and the back end after disconecting both taillight harnesses. By by passing the Bulb out sensor the short is gone. Is the bulb out sensor repairable in any way by resoldering or am I bound for replacement?

I'm with Art on this one. Yes the tall pins that run from the lower circuit board to the upper one are usually the solder joint issues, this Shorting issue is interesting. I'm guessing a coil broke loose and it touching something it shouldn't.

Prying the Red cap off isn't that easy. Two Mechanics Picks work well.

In case you don't have a diagram, power comes in from the switch on BL/R to terminal 9 (54S) and after going thru 3 coils, leaves from terminals 5 (S) Blue/Black to the high bulb, 10 (54L) and 11 (54R) both Yellow to the lower stoplights.

Certainly is repairable; If you've convicted it, I'm surprised you haven't already pried off the cover. But I'm curious about what could fail internally to provide a short from brake lamp circuit to ground. Whatever (water or shattered reed switch) might do that may not be so easily repairable. The soldering is done ordinarily to restore open connections made by cracks around the heavier component leads, not shorts.
