Volvo 240 OEM Dash 200

In my quest to restore my 83' 245 (52K miles), I checked on pricing for a new OEM dash from the dealership. $905. Yowza. I can't figure out why some company can't make an aftermarket dash and make a killing on these things. Every 240 I've ever seen has a dash that is reduced to shreds. However, it's the last thing I need so I may bite the bullet. I've scoured the local parts yards and the dashes I've found are worse than the one I have now. Any other ideas besides the plastic cap?

I need a tan dash. Mine looks like it has been in a knife fight.

Three of my non-op 240s are tan. They are all in-car, and I think each has one crack. The newest is in a 1984. Quite frankly, Dave Shan may have the best deal for you. Newer part, and Dave knows how they get shipped. He is - I think - in California, I am in Houston, Texas.

        Regards,

I've got an uncracked black/tan sitting on the shelf. This is what Volvo used in the later cars with tan interiors. Where are you, shipping these things is a pain, hard to find boxes for them and UPS starts hitting you with hefty oversize charges.

Wow!!! I knew that it would cost a lot of money but I did not think it would be around $1K. Makes me think that I should take that dash out of my 264GL and put the old one back in. I was planning to sell the 264GL becasue I'm going to buy a BERTONE instead. Good Luck!

    Sincerely,

    2-4d-y,

The Volvo dealer in my area (New Jersey) wants $1100 for a new 1990 dash. Right Now, I have a cap installed... and it is better than the San Andreas fault I had goin' on.

I would love to get a pristine dashboard and would suggest an online Volvo salvage yard like... www.hirschinds.com

You could also try to find a dash on Ebay. Or, maybe, get the name and number (through Ebay's email system) of a guy parting his car out and ask him/her for the dash.

    Peace, Jon

I had an 84 244 for several years and put a cap on it. I'm trying to get this one back like new and the dash is the last piece of the puzzle. I'll never get back what I put into it as far as money goes, but what the heck, no car payment, insurance is direct cheap, I can afford to put a little money in to it. With 52K miles, I'll be driving it for a while.

There is a place out west called Just Dashes. They supposedly restore dashes but i have not checked into whether they will restore a 240 dash. Their process looks like that once it is restored it wont crack again. Someday i`ll send my spare dash to them.
