wiring harness replacement: what all do I need? 700 1986

Well, this weekend I'm going to attempt to replace the engine wiring harness on my '86 740T. I've got a replacement harness from Dave Barton. I have his instructions and diagrams and I've read the FAQ several times.

I've read that some cable ties will need to be snipped. I assume I should have extras on hand. What else do I need?

Am I correct in understanding that the intake manifold does not need to be removed on the 740T?

I think Dave suggests replacing the vacuum hoses while I'm in there. Can I pick these up at NAPA, or do I need to get an order in somewhere ASAP?

Thanks in advance!

Joe

Mine was non turbo, but left the intake manifold in place. Good time to clean out the flame trap. I got a new one with o rings. Vacuum lines are pretty standard sizing. Should be able to get them at Napa, etc. Definitely makes sketches, label everything, etc..

You might remove the IACV. It makes access to the ECT sensor much easier. (To unplug and plug the new harness onto it)
I would hose the whole engine compartment down also before you start.

aleekat and vwhugger, thanks for the suggestions.

What is the purpose of hosing down the engine compartment?

I like to work when everything is somewhat clean. Seems to make the job easier.
I guess I just don't like getting all greasy like I did in my youger days. LOL
