WHEN IS IT TIME TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER??? 200 1986

My '86 240DL sedan has 282K miles on it and I recently replace the complete exhaust system from the converter on back...Not that I'm having any problems that I'm aware of, but when should the cat converter be replaced. My car's O2 sensor comes from the downward slope of the exhaust manifold on its way to the bend before the converter....By the way, I also just replaced the sensor for its first time........

Thanks.....

Replace it only when its bad. The only time they need to be replaced is when the stop working. Its also illeale to remove a working one unless your going to put it back on the same car.
