Ignition switch 200

I need to replace the ignition switch in my 240 91 wagon. Can anyone offer any advice?

The car will not start and it sounds like the starter is running but it does not engage. When I take the key out of the switch the starter is still running until I disconnect the battery. I tried contact cleaner in the switch but it did not help.

TIA

This sounds more like a bad starter solenoid than a switch.
Try pulling the solenoid wire off the starter and see if 12V comes and goes with the turn of the key- that would point to the switch being OK, and the solenoid being at fault.
Replacing a starter is on my "NOT FUN" list but it can be done at home...

HI. I agree. What is the "trick" for removing the top bolt on the starter. I can't seem to get a good angle/tool combo on the 87 that I'm trying to pull.

      Thanks

      Steve
