Couple of seat rehab questions 200 1978

Okay- first, any recommendations for a quality affordable fabric dye? And how about a vinyl dye? I ask about vinyl dye because the fabric half of the driver's seat upholstery is torn up; the vinyl back is good but it's a dark brown I don't expect to find in a junker.

Second, are there any special tips/tricks to replacing the foam in the driver's seatback- or will it all be obvious once the seat's out of the vehicle?

Thanks,
Matt

SEM makes a good fabric and vinyl dye/spray. I get it from a local paint supply shop. The Eastwood Company sells it online.

Eastwood doesn't seem to have my color, but thanks very much for the tip.

Incidentally, I know there are paint-codes, are there upholstery-codes too?

Try a local supplier if there is one near you. They seem to have a much greater selection. IPD also sells the stuff, maybe they have the color you need.

Thanks for the link, guys- that'll definately help.

MAYBE I'll even get lucky and stumble on a junker with the correct-color interior in good shape...

Check the archives for "Erling". You might have seen it, Erling has a 240 page link on his posts. In the link there's another link to Tony Hoffman's seat rebuilding info. Should be very helpful, it includes pictures and a step by step description.

Yes, it will be somewhat obvious once you pull the seat but Tony's instructions will definitely assist you.
