Hey, Thornton, CO isn't completely devoid of 240s- I've actually seen two
of them- both at my residence! Would agree with previous postings that Washington Park area in Denver is sort of like a refuge for old bricks- great area as well (attractive, phenomenal home resale value), esp. if you can afford and have a family. Wish you best of luck with your move!

Regards,
Jeff

P.S. Boulder has tons of Volvos, new and old, as well as great scenery.
P.S.S. Volvo Specialists on Santa Fe Blvd. in Denver and Voltek
on Emerson St. in Englewood are two shops that I like, but there are many others
as well.

Although I haven't lived in Denver for about 8 years now, I spent enough time there (20 years) to report (with tongue firmly planted in cheek) that there are certainly some class distinctions in the area.

South of downtown (Wash park): As likely an area for rear drive Volvos as any. Older homes and no parking.

Aurora (east): Pickup trucks, SUVs, and more pickups along with random minivan.

Downtown (Colfax Ave): Old Toyotas, and other assorted cars cobbled together with bailing wire and duct tape.

Lakewood (west): Volvos, but predominantly front wheel drive, with a golden retriever in the back of the wagon and 1.2 children in the back seat.

North side (Thornton, etc): Big Chevies, Fords, Dodges, etc.

Now before everyone starts screaming at me for stereotyping, let me say that I love Denver and plan to retire back in Colorado when the time comes. I may even bring my 240 back with me if I still have it.

There are a few good independents out there working on Volvos. I'm sure that others on this board can recommend specifics. I don't remember names and exact locations, but I had good luck with one shop just south of downtown. Helped me a lot when I had my 5.0 powered 740. Another shop further south (on Sante Fe Blvd maybe?) was great for used parts. Both are central / south central and easily accessible from most any where in town.

If you haven't spent much time there yet, you'll be surprised to see the number of older cars on the road. You gotta love the dry Colorado air which keeps the rust bug at bay. Enjoy your new home!

Hi. I just wanted to comment, you sure painted a accurate discription of Denver. I lived there for 6 years (Aurora, Wash Pk, Capitol Hill, Westminster) until '01. I loved Denver. Will for sure go back some day. I got my 1979(used-to-be-rust-free-until-I-moved-to-Maryland)Wagon there. I remember an indie shop off of W.Colfax just west of downtown..PO replaced tranny there, thought it was Bob's..might not be though..Take it easy..

4 x 4 x 8 and one 4 x 4 x 8 and one 122 wagon full plus a 145 wagon full of
parts brought from Augusta Georgia.

Check out the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Volvo Club of American. You can get to them thru Yahoo Groups and they are predominantly in the Denver Metro Area.
