240 Wagon on CSI last night 200

Did anyone else see it? It was part of an accident/crime scene. The show lost a lot of credibility when they mentioned that the guy must have been living in the car because the back seat was removed. Noooo... the back seat was lowered. Stuff like that. But it was still neat to see a brick on prime time.

I was wondering if this would come up. I too was saddened to see them wreck a 240, but they couldn't have used a different car because the plot required that that the driver survive the crash.

No More destroying Volvo 240s in TV chases, OK? 200

I realize some Volvos have to die so that others can live, but this process should be slowed down as much as possible.

It kills me to think of a perfectly good 240 being intentionally crashed into a bridge abutment just for a TV story line.

Enough! Let them smash up Camrys.

I feel the same way when I watch reruns of "CHiPs"... Whenever a beautiful old Dodge Coronet or something similar gets air-time, you know it's gonna get needlessly smashed. Why couldn't they have trashed Pacers or Vegas or something?

uh, usually there is a double. Props like to recycle as much as possible.
I'll bet you'll see that brick used many times.

But of course. Way to expensive to smultz, trash perfectly good vehicles of any kind. On occassion, a replica (double) may be made in order to follow the action.

Years ago, I saw clips of actual auto accidents involving Volvo's, BMW's, Saab's, and Mercede's. These vehicles were going over cliffs, into trees, high speed roll overs and head on's. There were exterior and interior shots. The passangers being actual people. I was amazed at the footage and was wonder how they came about.

Any thoughts as to what I was watching ?

          Al

Common practice for years. There were dozens of different Chargers used in "Dukes of Hazzard"- some for jumping-stunts, some for crashing, shells for the silly rear-projection stuff, etc.

Ditto for the movie "Christine"- Christine was actually something like 18 1957-58 Plymouths, and pieces thereof (Some of which were made of stiff rubber and fitted with hydraulics, even).

I never watch the show anyway. I was watching some movie with my wife last night (and fell asleep). It was Autumn in New York, another tragic love story with Richard Gere in it. I did count several Volvos in the background as well as a late 70's Toyota Celica which you never see around anymore. Then fell asleap. Check out Blood and Wine with Jack Nicholson, Paul Walker, Michael Caine and J-Lo. It's really cheesy but has a great chase scene with an early 80's 245 which gets flipped and thrown about 100 feet on it's roof. Fast & Furious Paul Walker should not have let his mom drive that day.

If any one is able to watch the British detective show "A Touch of Frost" on TV Ontario you will see a 245 every week since that's what the hero Chief Detective Inspector Jack Frost drives. The new series just started and he has a new set of wheels which may be a new Volvo but I'm not certain yet!

I saw it. The (lightening) speeds shown during the chase seen also didn't reveal a sense of realism! :o)

How did it turn out? 200

I saw the chase, the crash, the crumpled engine compartment and head imprint on the windshield, hear the determination the guy died from suffocation, but I fell asleep after that. Was that an 85?

1984 & '85 244s and 245s had that funky-looking black trimpiece on the "shoulder" of the doors. I don't know if there is a readily apparent difference between an '84 and '85, though.

          "funky-looking black trimpiece"

I object to that statement!! ;)

My 240's are 83 and 84 GL's and that's one of the details that I like about them!!

Of course, your taste may differ! Viva la difference!

Well, my first brick was an '84, now I've got a '78... The absense of that trim is just one of many things I like better about the styling of my "new" 240.

At least they've both GOT style, unlike the anonymous melted-looking things that manufacturers want us to buy nowadays, right? :)

I'll have to watch for that. I own an 84 made in Belgium with that trim, but did not know if it was associated with a year or trim level or what. Thanks!

How did it turn out? 200

It was a pre-86, but I'm not sure which year. It turned out that the annoying patrol officer from the other jurisdiction that was hasseling the guys took the film from the 240 after the crash and sold it to an enquirer-type tabloid. The famous actor next door was involved in killing a women while the photographer was taking pix of another famous actor who was by the pool with his male lover. The famous actor who killed the women sent his stunt double after the photographer (who was driving the 240). The stunt double killed the photographer by smothering him with a ball cap (complete with the upcoming movie title embroidered on the cap). In the end, all the mysteries were solved and the bad guys off to justice. It was actually one of the better episodes of CSI Miami, which I don't think is as well done as is the original CSI.

Anyone seen the TV series Monk which is running in the UK at the moment. Nice 740 in that.
