Eating Rotors-Made some Mistakes-Need Advice 900 1993

About 6 months ago-brakes were shuddering, so replaced rotors, pads. Since struts were going too, did those, ball joints, tie rod ends, and strut rod bushings. Put in the IPD poly bushings.

Have shuddering while braking again. Probably rotors. Problems encountered during the last brake job was that it was freezing cold, so my cleanliness was less than perfect and had difficulty with cleaning and greasing the slide pins. Also, the left slide anti-rattle clips were loose, causing a lot of problems getting the pad in, so in frustration, I just pulled them and put the new pads in.

So, I am going to replace pads, rotors, anti-rattle clips, bushings (I don't like IPD poly-sorry, IPD second bad experience), and carefully clean and grease caliper slides. I'm also going to use a dial-indiacatr to find the most even rotor positionaling on the hub. And I'm going to wire brush those clean again.

Any thoughts on what I might be overlooking would be appreciated.

I now own 2 940s, but once owned a 240. I had same shuddering problem. One time it was soooo bad, i thought it would jar my teeth loose!

Did all the research, asked all the questions..changed ALL bushings, shocks, struts, balljoints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings, etc. Six months later, more SHUDDERING :( Swapped out the rotors and pads (demanded free replacement under warranty) and got rid of the problem.... hope this helps.

BTW, also bled the system several times with Castrol synthetic brake fluid.

    good luck

Make sure your new poly bushing bolt hasn't loosened (the cone-shaped stay rod bushings, right?)

Before I replaced my badly worn ones, I had a severe braking shudder that felt just like bad rotors.

Maybe so. I don't get the shudder at high speeds, just low.

My bushing-related brake shudder wasn't high speed either.

Clean and lube pins, make sure the hub is clean and wire bushed before the rotor goes back on, and mate the marks. Check piston for binding as well.
