Annoying squeak 700 1992

There is an annoying, repetative squeak coming from somewhere under our '92 740 wagon. It occurs in forward or reverse, and speeds up (but gets less noticeable) as you speed up. It also occurs whether you are going straight or turning. I cannot duplicate the sound by raising the car and spinning any of the wheels by hand.

    Hi Jim,

    Sounds like a bad u-joint(s) in the driveshaft. Not a very common problem, but your discription fits. You wouldn't be able to reproduce the sound with the car raised if a u-joint is the problem. I believe there are instructions in the 700/900 FAQ that discribe how to check and replace the driveshaft u-joints. I hope this helps!
