Well I found the source the leak in my new 88 745. It is the sunroof drippan. The seal is completly shot. So now to the question what is a suitable replacement for it.

I had a leak in my 740, when I would wash my car, water would drip into the center console, then the stripping started coming off about a quarter of it, so I just ripped it off. and coincidentially, it doesnt leak when there is no stripping. its kinda odd.

Mine has a big gap at the back of the pan where the gasket is supposed to be.

Drippan is rusted through? This might be repairable with POR-15 and some soldering, but you'll have to pull out the sunroof. Likely the corner drains are completely plugged and preventing drainage. The seal can be replaced with another from Volvo.

i agree,sounds like corner drains,i did a 745 headliner once,and i don't remember a seal around the drip pan.[but i'm gettin' old]my sunroof poured water on me last week,thanks to the FAQs,i was able to adjust the sunroof 'even' w/ the rest of the roof.

The drains are fine. The pan is the bottom of the sunroof assy there is a gasket between it and the top. It was actually hanging out.

I have pulled the headliner and the drip pan is in good shape it is just the seal. It has come loose towards the back and I need to reseal it. I just need to know what to use.

Something like '3M Weatherstrip Adhesive'?
This has various uses in the field, including sticking polystyrene hair rollers inside German Shepherd puppy ears to help them become erect :) :) :)

I bought some camper tape that is used between truck beds and camper tops but I do not believe it is thick enough. I am considering using the old gasket with some silicon or other adhesive.
