Connectors for Knock Sensor and ECT accidentally swapped!!!! 700 1986

I have been posting problems here for seven months now (See my previous posts) trying to solve a problem with my car. I have replaced EVERYTHING that could have been the problem. Including all new wiring (TWICE)!!!Last night (3 O'clock this morning) I was tinkering with my new DVOM trying to make sense out of the ECT readings.

That's when I discovered that the ECT traced to the EZK Module and the Knock Sensor traced to the LH Jetronic. THIS IS BACKWARDS!!!I went to the engine, swapped the IDENTICAL connectors and SHAZAM!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A NEW VOLVO !!!!!!!!!!!

Now it's time for Nivomats or an AW-70!!!!!

Thanks to everyone who helped me in this endeavor. I was getting tired of everyone asking me if my TB was clean. I can see myself in the throttle plate for Pete's sake, LOL.

**Kurt is now doing his HAPPY DANCE...please stand back fellow Bricksters**

Volvo has a warning about that possible swap in their service manuals. In addition, the Throttle Positon Switch connector and the Air Control Valve (also known as the Idle Air Controller) can be swapped. I have posted this information several times.

      John,

      Is the '86 240 B230 different from the 740?

I ask because the knock sensor for the 240 MPG ignition (EEZ-K on 740?) has a single push-on spade connector, while the LH ECT (0-280-130-026 for 240/740) has the 2 flat-pin Bosch connector.

I could see wher the Knock and Temp Gauge sensor connectors could be accidentaly swapped, but Kurt says he traced his ECT back to the LH.

Yes, the 240 is different from the 740.

Volvo outsourced their wiring connectors along with their fuel injection and ignition systems. I think it would have been wise for Volvo to have used electrical connectors which could not be swapped. Yes, the colors on the connectors are different, but a mechanical difference would be much better.

          Thanks John,

I should have done a little research before I posted. I now see that the 740 had EZK before the 240, along with a different (2-pin?) Knock Sensor.

I've seen a similar mix-up on K-ket, between the Frequency Valve and the CPR heater plugs. A solid 12V on he Freq. Valve makes for very rich running.
