are the sway bars on 240 turbos thicker than on the non turbos? 200

I saw a 84 240 turbo in the junkyard today. The front sway bar looked heavier than the one on my 240. What is the truth of this matter? ..thanks ,Kris

Yes and if they are still there get them. Make sure to get the brackets, bushings, and bolts for the front sway bar and the bolts for the rear one. Also make sure to keep an eye out for an IPD Sway Bars (Front or Rear) that you maybe be lucky to come across at the bone-yard. I was lucky enough to find a IPD 25mm Front Sway with the brackets, bolts, and poly bushings. This has been the best thing for my 264GL as far as making the body stiffer. The IPD Sways are worth the money ($260-280) IMHO but since I bought the front one for only $10 I will test my luck at the bone-yard again and hope that I find the rear one. Good Luck!

If you can get a pair of turbo sway bars, that will probably be the most bang for your buck that you can possible get for improving the typically boxy handling of a non-turbo brick. When you take the front off, make sure you get all of the mounting hardware. I was able to reuse everything, even the rubber of the mounting bushings. If you're lucky you won't need to buy anything.

It makes a very nice difference, believe me. Go for it.

Links for info on Turbo 240/GLT swaybars. 200

Here's a link to a previous post that should have all the information you need about putting a set of thicker Turbo/GLT swaybars on your non-turbo 240. Note, a 240 GLT has the same suspension and trim package as a 240 Turbo, but without the turbocharger (both the 240 GLTs and Turbos were produced '81-'85).

81-85 turbos' had beefier bars. Go for it. They will fit perfectly on a 240. I'm looking for some myself in the boneyard and havent had any luck. Go get em before I get em!
