puffing smoke 200 1990

car has been sitting for about 3-4 months since the last time she was driven. Started her up today and she is smoking like a diesel. It's mostly black smoke, and lots of it. And smelly. She was fine before she was parked. No check engine lighgt. Pulled the codes, get the rich running codes. Checked the amm, connectors, ect all fine. One minute idling does not cause any codes after a reset. I put in 9 gals of fresh gas and took her on the highway, still the same. Also the cd player died for some stupid reason too, nope it's not the fuse.

thanks stumped.

Stuck fuel pressure regulator, or a bad engine coolant temp sensor.

It might clear up on its own- though Techron isn't a bad idea for a car that sat for so long.

And I don't know if it was stored where this might be a problem- but mice infest cars that sit, and chew on wires, build nests, etc... this could be the root of both problems. Places they seem to enjoy are the air cleaner box, and the holes at the top of the strut towers. I've had a couple of real stumpers caused by mice chewing wire harnesses (we spent literally dozens of hours tracing an ABS fault on a 92 245 once, turned out mice got the harness under the strut tower.)

Good luck!

I would run the tank down to about 1/4, then throw in some techron, drive it 75mph on the interstate until empty, then refill, go home change the oil and see if the next tank of gas is better!
