Questions!!! 700 1990

I hope that someone can help me with a few questions that I have regarding my 1990 745:

*Where is the fuel tank sender located on the 745 (No reserve tank is fitted)?

*Where is the earth/ground for the instrument panel?

*How do you remove the front seatbelt press button/belt buckle bulb covers without breaking them? Are replacements available from Volvo?

*Can an underhood light from a scrap 700 be fitted easily to an example which came without one from the factory?

*Which 700s (Apart from the red ones) came with grey interior trim?

Thanks in advance! Although I am a car person, Volvo 700s are relatively new to me, so I need to ask (Inane?) questions regarding their well-being from time to time!!!

    Questions!!! 700 1990

    Hi James,

I have installed a Volvo underhood light in my 745T out of a junker my mechanic had. He just wired it straight to my battery and the mercury switch in the light switches it on when the hood opens. Works nicely. I think I'll add one to my other 745 when I get a chance.

My (Canadian) '91 745NA is black and it has the gray interior (cloth seats). Not many of them seem to have the gray interior around here though, which makes it hard to find used interior pieces.

Tell me about it! I am looking for replacements for the trim panels above the doors, which have been removed at one time and have been broken when the grab handles were reattached (And tightened too much!).

Yeah, I noticed reciently that the grab handle for the front passenger in my 745NA is loose. I didn't try to tighten it up yet, so I don't know why it's like that. The driver's side is missing the little covers for the holes where a grab handle would go. Hopefully I'll find a set of gray ones someday.....The gray interior is nice though, a bit classy when it's all clean, and the two-tone of the dash is knida different. I don't know if I like it as much as the all black (except the headliner of course) interior in the turbo though....:)

1: The sender is awkward to get at but not difficult to do, Check the 700FAQ'S. I assume the reason you want the sender is because the fuel guage is non functional. If this is the case check under the boot floor, left side, you will find the wires going to the fuel tank and rear axle, verify that the groung is well attached, also with the help of an assistant you can check the guage by applieing(I am aware that the spelling is off but I can't find the word I am looking for in the dictionary) voltage to the wires and watching the guage.
2: is part of the connectors, You can verify if it is working with the lighting connections(if the bulbs light you have ground
3:Never done this so I can't be of help other than to say that volvo's are genraly logicaly assembled, don't use brute force and all should be well
    4: yes
5:Almost all colours could be had with grey interiors here in Canada.

No such thing as a stupid question, just idiotic answers

    Merci

    Yvan

      Merci bien!

I shall root out an underhood light next time I am in the scrapyard. Fitting it sounds like a fun weekend project. Maybe I'll find a car with a grey interior, etc. at the same time :)

I think the tank sender is duff as when the tank gets to about half full, the guage drops to zero and jumps about. Below and above half full the guage works normally, which suggests that the sender resisitve element is worn at the half full point. I am going to have a look at the instrument panel before I do anything drastic, though...
