How to remove shift knob 200

My vehicle is a 1988 240 wagon, automatic. I need to replace the plastic trim around the shift lever - the one that shows P N D L R. In order to R&R it intact, the black knob with the overdrive button on the side and the release button on top must be removed. There is no set screw visible, so how is the knob attached, and what does it take to remove it? [In my '87 5 speed, the knob is glued on]. Any advice by those with experience will be appreciated!

pull up on it, you can twist slightly if needed, but not too much or you'll damage the knob.

oh and be careful not to whack yourself in the face!

How to remove shift knob 200

Carefully remove the the silver plastic cover on the shift arm. It can be seperated from the back side. Be careful so it can be re used. Then remove the OD button. Then pull straight up un the shift knob. If it is really stubborn I put a cresent wrench around the shaft and pound on it from the bottom.

This has worked well for me.

Steve
