HEATER BLOWER MOTOR 700

HI GUYS
I need to replace the heater blower on my 87 740GLE,8 valve. The question is:
1 pin connector or 2 pin connector? Also does the plastic fan come with it or is it a separate item? Is it advisable to use a used unit or or should I go with a new/aftermarket one? Tks guys.

The best way to tell for sure is to see how many wires you have coming from the blower motor to the plug. Them call or email IPD and they will identify it. Some of their blower motors come with a squirrel cage and some do not. I bought a two wire blower motor that happened to come with a squirrel cage from IPD for $61.00. They will tell you if your model comes with or without a squirrel cage. I recommend getting one with the cage if possible since the process of removing the old one may damage it.

    my 85 was a 1 pin.
The junkyard motor works fine, ans tested on my 12V drill battery.
Perhaps the Citation motor would be better due to having been run in teh 'upside down' position.
your plastic fan should be good for 30 years unless the rats get to it.
THe real reason my blower quit was not the squeaqling, but the ground behind the kick panel had come undone.

I'm not sure who made Volvo's fan motor, but they're better than the generic replacements. On my 87 GLE I bought a new motor, complete with cage, from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Cheap, maybe $30, it's just a GM clone, and convenient as they're just around the corner. Anyway, replacement motor lasted one year. I then pulled one from a junk 740. Free. Has lasted 2.5 years. And jeez, they are so easy to get to.

I second that. Volvo's are better even junked ones. The one in mine I bought used for around $15, on its 5th year and still blowing.

..third! Used from junk yard $5, lasts years! New after market, well I end up replacing them about every year for around $40-60. In regards to 1 or 2pin connectors you should be able to reach up under after removing the panel and check for yourself, of course with everything off... When you replace the old motor make sure your ground is tight. Those screws wear out over the years and will make ground contacts loose if one is not careful.

          Good luck!

HI, I saw your posting about the blower fan. May I ask a question? I have a 1985 740T wagon, 160K miles. The fan spins, but make a terrible shreaking noise. The noise changes at different speed setting, which suggests to me that the fan motor is OK. My assumption is that the fan blades are rubbing on something. Perhaps the motor bearings are worn and the fan wobbles.

            Thoughts?

I once pulled up the rug and tried to access the fan assembly behind the plastic panel forward of the front passenger door, but it seemed a very formidable task. Are there directions you could point me to?

            Thanks very much!
