Fuel Pressure Control Regulator 200

Okay, so I've replaced the ECT, the AMM, air bypass valve. What else could be causing my cold running problem. This is very strange. Does the fuel pressure control regulator change functions according to temp? I dont know much about this fuel injection stuff so any help would be appreciated. It's been -10 degress the last couple of mornings so its been very finicky. Also, when its cold the exhaust stinks! Smells like motorcycle exhaust. Is this normal?

Brett

    Fuel Pressure Control Regulator 200

    Hello Brett:

I have fixed the same symptoms by replacing the fuel pressure regulator on my now departed 760GLE (similar FI system). On cold mornings it would barely start and then run very roughly. Given that the FPR is only about $35 from FCPgroton.com and it takes about 20 minutes to install it, I'd be willing to give it a try. One clue (although not a bullet-proof diagnosis) is to pull off the vacuum line on the FPR and check if it contains gas. That is an indication that the rubber diaphragm inside has ruptured. Mine failed without these symptoms, though...

Plugs at the same time is a good idea-- if the FPR is bad and the vehicle is running rich, they are probably really fouled.

Let us know what fixes things for you!

Egad! Minus 10 degrees - Celcius or Farenheit?

I don't recall what the cold running problem is. Things that affect warm-up would IMHO be (1) preheat tube into the airbox (2) thermostat in the cooling system (3) problem with spark advance, maybe.

Usually an unpleasant exhaust signifies a too-lean mixture. A too-rich mixture will cause a smell but it's not so unpleasant.

Can't think of more just now.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

fuel pressure SHOULDN'T change with temp, only with vacuum. instead of using a dartboard to fix it, why don't you get someone with tools and info take a stab at it. with the money you've spent, it might be fixed now. that way, they can check fuel pressure and see if, by chance, it changes with temp. no tools and we can guess all we want. might be as simple as a vacuum leak or a bad coil. good luck, chuck.

man, that's too bad. where are you? i just hate to see good money go after bad. maybe, buy a fuel pressure gauge, a good dvom, a cheap ignition scope-i know, it's a stretch, but cheap is possible on ebay-and a bentley, or preferably a few of the oe volvo books, so when you fix yours, you now have a reputation for dealing with running problems on volvos. yours can't be the only one in town. and the money you spend on tools, you might be able to recover in a few cars. just a thought.

ok, in the middle of nowhere, no one to fix it, what's next. what is the problem- starts ok? just runs bad when very? cold? does it clean up after warming? what's the gas mileage? do you have a digital volt meter? can you provide some voltages if i ask? maybe we can sort this out. lemme know, chuck.
