Jsut installed the Bilstein TC shocks and new bolts 200

The ride is AWESOME.. so much nicer than my frozen Boge auto's. I checked the play on both the bottom bolt and top bolt comapred to the stock shocks and the holes were the same size. One idea that popped to my mind is that if the people who were having the rattling problems... if there current shocks were old and rusty in the sleeve area, and it wore down the diameter of the bolt or something?

I took it for a test drive about a mile or 2, consisting of some nice turns and lots of hard packed snow. The only rattling my car had was from the rear seat back in my wagon. I couldn't hear anything really from the shocks so they are doing really nicely... even over the constant bumps of the snow.

Mine seemed quiet for a few days, then they started talking. I retorqued everything, but they still rattle.

I had a similar thing happen when I did the shocks on my 240 (Boge Turbo), but after retorquing all was quiet.

The lower bolts on my 940 are new due to being rust-locked in the OEM units, and the upper bolts still look new, so I know it's not that.

Maybe if it gets above freezing this weekend I can investigate some more.

same here... it is about 1F out here and everything seems to be making noises. My master cylinder decided it wanted to go also... so damn.. everything is going wacky. What is your email address, shoot me up at runabout4fun@yahoo.com so we can compare notes with this bolt issue.

Well damned... the rattling just started all of a sudden and is getting worse ROFL... I know I should have torqued them down by hand while the thing was on teh ground. I iwll post after this to confirm the clunkin is gone. It was going fine for a good 20 miles then I think the tension on the bolts from the sway bar and them being kinda off caused them to loosen and such. But this is definatly a loose bolt issue, since the holes are the same width as the ones on the Boge.

I'm glad they worked for you Kevin! No rust here either - the bolts are clean and intact, and there is still play, and rattles on both sides. I'm putting on a set of Boges this weekend, and springs too - why not, I'm in there anyway!

Thanks again for your help on my post.

David

Glad they worked out Kevin. I can vouch for no rust or other issues on the studs on either of the southern California Volvos I used them on. My guess is they got the proper sizing finally. That's a good thing, I liked them other than the rattling.
