Bosal catalytic converters 200

There is a 5-year warranty registration card that comes with the Bosal cats that you get from FPC Groton. It appears that the warranty needs to be filled out by a dealership. Is it possible to get the warranty when an individual installs it? Since there's hardly any way to install the cat incorrectly, it would seem pretty unfair to not get the warranty on the part just because you put it in yourself.

One small annoyance about the Bosal cat: The OEM cats have threaded holes to accept the mounting bolts that attach it to the front exhaust pipe, but the Bosal cat just has regular holes with no threads, so you'll have to have 3 new bolts (a little longer than the original bolts) with nuts and lock washers at the ready to install it. You'll want to get copper bolts/nuts if you can find them, or else the yellow-goldish colored ones that I think are called "Type 6" or something like that. Also make sure you get a new gasket.

This is why I buy my aftermarket catalytic converters from AutoZone. They give a lifetime over the counter warranty, generally at lower prices than the mail order places. The cat for my 91 is $99 at the Zone.

Oh, the lack of tapped holes on the replacement cat only looked like a big deal till I realized I'd have to replace the old ones anyway. Stainless bolts and nuts were cheap at Lowe's.

I bought a bosal cat for my '87 244. When the pipe rusted through between the 3-bolt flange and the body of the cat about 1.5yr after I bought it, I sent it back for a replacement. I never had that card filled out. I actually bought a new one from FCP, then sent the old one back in the new box, then received a credit for the amount I had paid. Net cost was about $6 for shipping.

Agreed - the Bosal cat from FCP is not plug 'n play. The muffler shop that installed mine had to redo it after it began leaking at the bolted flange, as it was not a perfect match with the (also FCP) Starla intermediate pipe to the forward muffler. But with the installation hassles now behind us, it's been fine for 15 months and passed CA emissions.

I tossed the warranty card. My theory - unless it's either real expensive, or you can very easily send the product in to the manufacturer for their examination of the defect, it's not worth the run-around you will invariably get.
