Performance Muffler for 92 240 N/A Need Help!!!

Yeah guys I am new to this forum and I am trying to get more performance out of my Volvo. I eliminated the resinator and put an aftermarket bosail head pipe 2.5 inch diameter. SO I am now looking for a performance muffler. I am thinking about a flowmaster 60 series sport compact. Has anyone tried it and how does it sound? I am trying to get a deep mellow tone out of it. Many have said the IPD system but I am trying to get something better. The mounting is transveral so It is a little difficult. Any suggestions will Help greatly

The ipd sport muffler (240T muffler) has an excellent sound. Can't blame anybody for recommending it (I have it too.)

I heard a 245 with a single Flowmaster on it (not sure what type.) It sounded great, but not deep. It had a more of a higher-pitch, metallic noise to it - dare I say, Ferrari-esque? Hopefully you understand what I'm saying here... It was not ricey.

"something better than IPD..."

IPD specializes in volvos, and more importantly in tuning them for performance enhancements. Just wondering, is there something wrong with the ipd exhaust?

I had flowmaster on my 5.0 years back with stright pipe for cat and let me tell you... man oh man... what a beautiful tone. BUT, that was a V8. This is a n/a 4 cyl 2.3L, you cannot get a very deep tone.

Be weary, larger and less restrictive exhaust is NOT necessarily going to give you more power, could actually give you less, there is a LOT is physics and acoustic tuning involved in every paramater of an exhaust system.
Moral: Go with someone who spacializes in your car, not the local pimpy exhaust guy with the civic with 3" muffler and bookshelf spoiler.

Exhauust gas volume wise, what souds good dual on a 4.6 mustang shaould work well on your 2.3.
The less pipe behind the muffler, the louder it will be.
A megaphone shaped tip may amplify the note you want, look at Chevy v8 pickups.
I think the Magnaflow has a good compromise between noise and tone.

I agree that bigger is not always better. Lots of dollars and time on dynos have proven this to be fact. Used to be a guy at local drag strip and we would get onto him about his "little tailpipes" on his 1966 mustang. He ran a full exhaust where just about everybody else was using header mufflers and dumps. He consistently blew everybody into the weeds. This guy had done his homework and had tuned his exhaust to what his engine required. He was an engineer of some sort and could prove on paper the gas dynamics that led him to his exhaust setup. In a nutshell, his exhaust got SMALLER the further back on the car it went. He proved to me and a LOT of other folks that bigger is not always better.Later, rcs
