Were 83 240's prewired for the ambient air temp guage? 200

While it's still -20 outside today and that is where my Volvo sits I was looking under the hood for a location for an accessory ambient air temp gauge sender I recently purchased. In the drivers side up by the battery I see a yellow wire with a ring end and a little rubber boot similar to the one pictured on an E-Bay ad. Is this the wire for the ambient gauge sender?
Is the car also prewired for the oil temperature sender? The wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual does not show that the cars are factory prewired.

No 240s were prewired for those accessories, including the optional oil pressure gauge.

Be very careful of the Haynes schematics. Often, the "main" schematic is for a European version of the car, and the modifications for North America (and elsewhere) are addendums that are appended at the edge of the schematic.

The Haynes schmatic drives some people nuts. It's only worth using once you learn to locate the material that applies to your version car. And you might even want to check for tiny differences between Canadian and American versions.

Don, Thanks but now I wonder what the yellow wire and little boot would be for? I probably will trace the wire back to the dash and if suitable will use it as the wire for the gauge since it is located in the area I want to place the sender. This is a Canadian built car.

I don't know that none were, the Canadian GLT came with the gauge in the pseudo-turbo cluster and I wonder if that was incorporated into the gauge harness. The turbo-like cluster with an ambient temp gauge is my field mark for cars that have the K cam. This is what I do for excitement, eh.

From all I've seen, Bob, all those gauges -- and even the small clusters -- come with their own harnesses that are installed when the gauges go in. If they go in at the factory, then the harnesses go in at the factory (as with turbos). But they only go in the cars receiving the gauges or clusters.

To my knowledge, the only auxiliary wire that's preinstalled in all 240s is the tach wire from the coil, and that's probably done for safety reasons.

Oh right, certainly only GLTs were wired, not all 240s wired for the ambulatory temperature gauge. Maybe I missed something in the wording of the original but I never listen to the wife too carefyully either.

Could be, although I have never seen a pre-wired 240 for a ambient temp gauge I can not say that they do not exsist. Also I mounted my ambient temp gauge sender on one of the bolts for the radiator middle brace (I do not think that is the right term for it). If youlook under the front bumper there is a curved metal piece that goes in front of the radiator. It just took out on of the bolts closest to the bumper and mounted my sender there. I get very good temp readings with little influence by air since the sender is almost being enclosed by the front bumper. I used to have the sender mounted behind the front grill using the bolt that holds the horns in place but the wind was giving me false readings.

AS far as the wiring goes if it is there than great, if it is not then it not that hard to route some new wiring through there. When my friend junked his 84 245 I removed the two blank spaces covering up the gauge pods next to the instrument cluster and revealed a MINI 52mm TACH. He never knew it was there. Luckily I found it in time for hime to take out the need wiring and gauge to put in his 87 240DL. I got a drink for helping him out so I can not complain. Good Luck!

    Sincerely,
