Pics of 80-84ish 240's with the 78 GT hoods and front end conversion?? Anyone have any? 200

As some of you know I am refreshing an 81 245
http://members.shaw.ca/swellpeople/Volvo%20Page.htm

I am considering redoing the front end and hood with the 78 GT hood and front end. My hood has some bad rust under the front lip seam that I don't really care to fix, and I have a line on a 78GT with all the goods in decent shape.

I would like to hear/see about anybody's experience with this set up, and hopefully anybody with pictures would rock!

Thanks Brickers!

-Phil

I did it to an '84 242DL. I did it for the same reasons you did. The hood was shot, and I had a '75 parts car.

Since the '75 had a black grille and buckets, and the '84 had a black bumper, I thought it looked swell.

They actually came with the car, as did another pair, (the gold ones Jordan talks about that he bought from me). They are Riken 2-piece, but I don't know the actual model.

IF you really want I have a set of the rims. I bought them from Phil a few years back, They are just holding up our 122 now. Don't have hub caps though.

;) nasty47@hotmail.com if you really really want... oh they are gold and need to be painted black to be sexy like phils.

Phil, Do this swap, it looks awsome on wagons. I have a GT, and I love the front end. We are probably going to do this on my brothers 245Ti.

Where are you getting your work done Phil? Shoot me of an e-mail. nasty47@hotmail.com since my volvoeh is down..... I'll be down teh Van way soon

You can cut and paste this to see some before and after pics of my old 244. I found a real '83 flathood in the yards and grabbed the hood, made my own grill. The 245ti is using a hood off of a GT also but no pics of it up yet.

      Hey Dave,
I have visited your site a number of times, but hadn't acutally noticed those pictures yet. How did you make the grill? What did you make it from ? Are the headlights and structure the same as pre-flat hood?

Thanks for the pics..I like the look, and may work that into my plans.

      -Phil

You'll get marginally better results from a 242 grille circa '79-'80 that has the shorter slash & logo. Since it doesn't run from corner to corner, it's not cut with the grille, and it results in a nearly perfect match to the '83 242ti grille, except for the color. I think the one Dave shows was used on '75-'78 cars...the ones with the old body style. I'm not certain of this, but it's the best theory I could piece together from my old 240 brochures.

The grill is featured with a brief how to on

        http://www.homestead.com/volvo2/grill.html

Headlights were (the car was parted out) H-2/H-4 replacements but went in the same buckets that the original sealed beam lights were in. The light surrounds were from an early 4 rectangular light DL, they did not have the reflector under the lamps, I like the blacked out effect. The current 245Ti used a cut down grill from an '80 240DL with all chrome removed and the fins have been filled so the whole thing is smooth.
