Cruise Control on my '90 245 5 speed 200 1990

Hello fellow brickers:

My cruise control hasn't been working for a few months and I am starting to really miss it as I drive up and down I-5 often.

Here are the things that I know need work on my car. Center rear brake light, defrost and license plate lights don't work as the wiring harness through the tailgate is shot. Other than that, every thing works great and the car runs like a champ every day.

Before it went out, everything with the cruise worked fine until just one day, it wouldn't set.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ed

The late model cruise controls REQUIRE that the 3rd brake light AND the bulb failure sensor work properly. I discovered this on the brickboard, and the diagram for the '90 up 240 cruise control bears it out, although it's not obvious.

My '89 245 has the '90 up cruise kit, and it does not work either. All switch tests check ok, and the module in another (244) car works fine. Therefore I have resolved myself to the fact that until the 3rd brake light is fixed, and the bulb failure sensor is replaced (shorting the 3rd brake light wires fails the sensor, which is both easy and common on wagons), I'll be w/o cruise.

I was reading up on this stuff the other day in my bentley manaul. I would get one and follow the instructions for troubleshooting this, as it explains the procedure real thoroughly. Other than that, I would advise you to do a search here.

Hope someone else can give you more detail.

    Cheers,
    SM
