Adjustable End Link Kit 200

While i was reading through JC Whitney, i found this intersting part,

http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?makeId=1000149&productId=2122&catalogId=10101&langId=-1&modelId=1001844&storeId=10101

It says it can increase/decrease the stiffness of the sway bar by using a adjustable end link. Anyone have any ideas how this even works?

Thanks,
Blake

If roll force exceeds the force of the spring in the middle, the body rolls easily untill spring bind is acheived. When the bushing stops moving down the shaft, full sway bar force takes effect. Mercury Gran Marquis 1990's came with such a setup, and it has a nice feel, stiff sways without being harsh.
you get a hard urethane and a soft rubber bushing for inner and outer positions, (8 total),
    8 bushing seat washers
an undefined selection of springs and spacers to control bind height.
to DIY, all you need to do is add a spring and spring seat, and cut your spacer so the end link can collapse against the spring a bit.
Be extra sure there is no opportunity for the end link to pierce anything it shouldn't.

After breaking about 5 sway bar links over a half year (overtorqued the control arm mounting bolt), I decided to make my own adjustable links. I found strong heim joints (spherical bushing rod ends) in the McMaster-Carr supply catalog, and then got some high-strength threaded rod. Lastly, I made some aluminum spacers to center the heim joint in the a-arm bracket. I played with the preload on the sway bar (thick IPD bar), but the effect of the preload was negligible so I just set the link length to the stock dimension.

I noted after I made my links that someone who makes performance parts for Bricks sells the very same thing for about 5 bucks less per pair than what I spent on mine!

Jim's right, the only benefit of adjustable end links is to make up for the change in angles on a lowered car, Nick Choy used to make some. Those won't work on 240s anyway, they have the wrong attachment on one end, those would work on the 700 series that had the aluminum lower arm if they were the right length.

      Not so fast...

When Nick was "bodging" up the design he made me up a set of 240 end links that work just fine.

Nick's work fine, they adjust for the different angles caused by lowering the car, note the period. The next sentence refers to the ones in the link, they have the wrong attachment for a 240.

You give money, they get money.
You get junk, they get rich.
Unless the lever arm changes, there's no adjustment.
