Great Ones,
I have an Aw71 Auto on an '85 Turbo. The speedo went dead without any warning while driving. I disconnected the cable from the dash and spun the rear tires. Nothing. I ordered a new cable and replaced it. The connection ( on the trans) that the new cable threads into began to spin. I attached the "brace" held on by a hex screw and tightened the new cable. I spun the tires and nothing. The new cable isn't turning. According to Mr. Robert Bentley my speedometer drive is faulty. How difficult is this repair? I can't find an exploded view. Bentley has a diagnosis but no cure that I can find. Any help is greatly welcome.

pull the cable off the trans and run the car again. if all is well in the trans, you will see a square drive turning. that's what runs the cable. if not, pull the adapter off and look at the gear. probably the problem. if ok, the gear on the end of the trans has broken-never seen it but what the hey. then you pull the extension housing and deal with it. good luck, chuck.
