88 700 vs 90 700 700

I am about take ownership of a 88 745 gle. I currently own a 90 744ti and was just wondering what the main difference was between the two.

    88 700 vs 90 700 700

I guess I should have been more exact with my question. I am basicly looking for the difference in mechanics. My 90 has Bosch LH 2.4 what does the 88 have.
It is the dreaded K block. Does it have a AW 70 trans etc.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the K block motor in you NA car. If you had a turbo car, you would have some concern over the small (9mm) connecting rods. This is not a concern in your NA car.

The 1988 car has LH 2.2 Jetronic. It is highly reliable. The only problem which you could anticipate is AMM (Air Mass Meter) trouble. The 1988 cars have the improved wire harness insulation.

If your car has the OD lock out button on the side of the shifter it has the AW 70 transmission. If it does not, it has the undersireable ZF transmission.

Thanks John taht is what I was looking for.
I cannot really complain no matter it is as it was free. I have not even seen it yet but I do understand that the interior is in bad shape but for free.

Replacing the interior with a used one isn't a bad job. My son and I completely changed out the interior in his car, a 1984 760T. We spent less than $100 for a complete U-Pull It interior, less the headliner. Changing the dash is a big job, but the headliners I dislike doing the most.

I now have the car and have been able to access the condition of it. It has new Michelin tires, some portion the a/c has replaced. It also has 14 inch wheels which is a nice switch from high dollar 16 inchers on my 744.
The exterior is in great shape aside from some dents in the hood and will post a pic when I am able. Now the interior is another question. It needs a headliner, front passenger side door panel (the plastic pull cup broke and was not replaced) and the seats need some attention. The window on the same door does not roll up and down properly there are some tears and the rest just needs a soaking with Leatherique. The sunroof has been and still does leak like a sieve. The previous owner supposedly spent $1000 to repair it. I have never heard of a leak problem that wasn’t associated with a blocked drain hose. I am going to check the FAQ and see what I come up with.

I'm no expert by any means, but I have an '89 and the GF has a '91 and I do notice a few differences. The obvious ones, of course, are the front end/headlights and slightly different tail lights and a different dash. Her's has the better stereo and speakers. I notice under the hood that a few components are moved around but basically it's the same. There may be some internal differences in the engine, I'm not sure when the larger rods were used.

IIRC, '88 was the last year of the biodegradeable wiring harness. Be sure you check it closely.

The most obvious difference between my 1990 745 and an 1988 (or older) model 745 is the front end treatment- I must say that I prefer the older style front end...
