wiring harness 200 1986

I have a '86 240DL with almost 50K on it. I keep on hearing horror stories about the wireing harnesses going bad on this era of brick. I was just wondering if it is a job I can do myself (what is involved?).

Also, are there any symptoms that indicate that the harness is bad? I have no issues, except that it will not run smooth - feels like a slight miss at all RMPs. Have checked timing, installed new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, O2 sensor, knock sensor, coolant temp sensor, cleaned IAC valve, cleaned oil box & flame trap, mass air meter, and replaced the flexable air hose from breather box to throttle body. I think my next step will be to clean out throttle body.

Thanks!!!

I think you can. You will have to remove yours, an excellent teaching situation. Get good with the spring loaded connectors and do not force those. I have done it without removing ( or moving) the intake. It really is not a big deal and it would be hard to mis-connect anything since the connectors are unique at every plug. Look around the alternator for deterioration. The "miss' could also be injectors or even motor mounts gone bad.

i have same car with same problem just wondering how the motor mounts could cause the engine to miss. i also have done most of the things you have and cleaned alot of ground wires and power wires.
