virgo's on a 89 740, chrome lugnuts? 700 1989

The 240 turbo lugnuts won't work on a 700 correct?

Any one have an econimical source for some chrome lugnuts that would look nice on virgo wheels on a 700.

I know IPD sells some for 2 dollars a piece. I'm looking for something a little less expensive.

thanks

-Bruce

Don't know about later models with ABS but I put Virgo's on my '87 740 with no problems and they look great. The 740 uses a 12mm metric lug nut and I had no problem finding chrome nuts at the local autoparts store for a reasonable price. You are correct, 240's have SAE studs (9/16" I believe) so they do NOT fit.

No that's not true. The lug nuts fit all 240/740/940 without any problems.
You REALLY want to use the factory chrome nuts, or a similar very long nut, with the Virgos- if you use the standard lug nuts, and they will work, they're WAY down deep in the lug holes. They're a pain to get started, and the normal impact sockets that the tire shops use are too thick to get down in the hole and get around the nut- the holes taper, and the socket bottoms out in the sides of the hole before it can get a good bite on the nut.
What happens next is, the socket scratches up the inside of the hole, and the nut gets rounded off on its outer edges.
If you use a regular breaker bar and a deep standard chrome socket, like I do, you won't have a problem with the tool binding up in the wheel- but how many tire shops ACTUALLY do this? NONE is my best guess.
Also note that Virgos don't fit all 740's- if it has ABS brakes, it's likely the Virgo won't clear the calipers.

Say what?

The 700s/900s use metric threaded studs, the 200s do not.

The Virgos will not fit over the bigger of the 700/900 calipers either.

The Virgos do indeed require longer lugnuts for easier access.
