Oil leak mystry. 200 1988

I have a 1988 Volvo 240, and I was check the oil and other things under the hood today. I noticed that I had oil along the oil filter, that must have driped down to the moter mounts and splash pan. On the filter the oil seemed pretty fresh. The level is still in the top of the range on the dip stick. I thought that maybe the oil filter was loose but it did not seem so. Might anyone know what is happening. Maybe it's just a bad just a filter? By the way, I use the Volvo filter.

Tahnks for your help and Happy bricking.

seems to me they are right about the oil pressure sender - it has happened to me too. my car is 360 with B19A, similar engine as B21, B23 etc.

Oil leak mystry. 200 1988

It may be one of the three front engine seals. Dan

The oil would be on both sides of engine if this where the case. Or at least covering the engine block on the passenger side, not just the oil filter and mount.
I would assume the front seals would leak into the timing cover and drip from the bottom of timing cover.
Nothing mean intended.

I had same problem. It was the oil sending unit above the oil filter.
The sending unit was cracked and spraying oil onto the oil filter.

I strongly suspect the pressure sender.
I had one that sent a fine spray up onto the water pump, but only at speed so I could never catch it just watching at idling speed.
Oil leaking from the cam oil seal is a possibility. It runs down behind the plastic engine plate and can emerge anywhere around the water pump, or run down to the filter.
