Funnel in a pinch 200 1984

I had to top up the coolant in the ol' girl and didn't have a funnel. I just cut the top off of a 1/2 gallon milk jug and used that. The spout on the jug was a perfect fit for the coolant res. and held it snug.
So if anyone is in need of a quick funnel there ya go.
Oliver

I had to use a 2pg. Sparco Kart catalog rolled into a cone and taped together for the purpose of adding gasoline to a 242 race car during an event last fall. I tried to borrow one, but a wide funnel doesn't work well with a 240 gas filler, especially when there's no one to hold it while I lift the 5 gal. jug. Any sort of heavy paper will generally work OK. I think I went through a half dozen of them during the day!

Or the top of a plastic oil can.
But good luck getting any of those to work on the automatic transmission filler.

Quick funnel for automatic transmission fill tube. 200 1984

On several occasions I've had to add ATF fluid without the use of a conventional funnel. A few of the creative solutions I've used in the past:
        1. Aluminum foil rolled into a cone.
        2. A travel guide brochure rolled into a cone (made from magazine type paper).
        3. Cut a small hole in the cap of the 1-quart ATF bottle with a swiss army knife and mount a straw through the hole using some recently chewed bubble gum. Invert ATF bottle, insert the straw into the filler tube, and squeeze very gently so as not to dislodge the straw and gum. (As a precaution, attach a piece of tape part way down the length of the straw to stop it from going all the way down the tranny fill tube, should it seperate from the bottle.)
        4. Lastly, pouring real, real, real slow.

Currently, I try to keep a few disposable paper funnels in the car. Some of the nicer gas stations dispense them for free next to where they sell motor oil.

        God bless,
        Fitz Fitzgerald.

A bottle of any type to use as a funnel in an emergency is a luxury few of us had 20 years ago when most of the small bottles were glass. I learned as a kid in the 70s that almost any piece of paper, most commonly newspaper, would work well as a funnel if you roll it into a cone. The best part about it is that you can roll one tightly enough to use for almost any purpose, even automatic transmission fluid.

I even once had to use a newspaper funnel to pour gasoline from a bleach bottle into the tank of my 69 Mercury Cyclone. It had the filler neck behind the license plate, in the bottom of the bumper, and was a bear to get to. I really should've fixed the gas gauge on that car.

My Daughter came up with this on her own, when she called for help and I said her A/T might be low on fluid —

She stopped and bought a cheap Turkey Baster! It worked fine, with the rubber bulb removed.

Turned out the real problem was the "Cat", whose innards had come loose, rolled up into a ball, and were intermittently blocking the exhaust.
