Fuel injection problem - possible wiring harness? 900

I just finished doing a head gasket and motor mounts on my 93 965 (original owner-176000 miles). The car ran perfectly for about an hour after completing the job, but during its first extended drive it went into 3 cylinder mode, stalled a number of times and finally had to be towed home. On board diagnostics have given me the 1-1-3 and 1-1-5 codes for both injector sets and I'm sure thats the problem as I've pretty well eiminated everything else(fuel pumps, relays ect.)All individual injectors check out fine and continuity between the injectors and the 53 connector plug check out with digital meter. After reading Tom Irwin's wiring harness info. I guess continuity check don't mean much. I'm willing to pull the intake manifold again to disect the wiring harness and look for problems, but I'd like to eliminate any possible components first. Other posts mentioned ground problems and I did change motor mounts. My 93 had no gound connectors on the drivers side motor mount. It has a ground strap from cam cover to firewall and two from battery to sub-frame and a lug on the engine block.I dont't think its a primary ground probem. The car would restart, run fine for about 2 minutes and then either go into 3 cylinder mode before stalling or just stall all together. Very frustrating. This motor has been flawless for 11 years and alot of miles. Looking for ideas.

I think you really do have a ground point at the driverside mount, you just are not seeing it. A few years ago I had to replace the head gasket because of a large oil leak. After reassembly the car, it started right up, I let it warm up and checked for coolant leaks, turned it off and went to wash up and go for test drive. Thirty minutes later I returned for the test drive and the car did not start. I had miss the ground tang to a wire that holds the harness down as it passes over the engine mount bracket. There are 3 or 4 10mm bolts that hold the harness down, the wire goes to one bolt that has a nut on the end. I guess while it was hanging loose it was grounding by accident, then as I went to start it again for the test drive, I assume the shaking of the engine at shut down or start up caused the wire to move and no longer be grounded. But that ground point grounds the 02 sensor and the power stages for the spark plugs. Your codes of 113-115 are for the injector groups, I don't think it is coinincidence that you are having this problem. There must be another point that is missing. I had that code once too and am not sure how I cured it, but seem to think it was corrosion in the big plug connector attached to the driver side wheel well. That is easy and quick to rule out.

How right you are. I just got back for Conn., and the boy up there had been pulling his hair out trying to find the problem. Sure enough, the ground was dissconnected and wedged under the wiring harness cover. Put the wire back on the studd and BINGO problem solved.
