Front wheel lateral play -How much? 700

90 760T 193,000 miles....Question: With front end raised, I perform the 3 and 9 o'clock "grab" with some (1/16" or so) play on both front wheels...no play when at the 12 and 6 o'clock position. Is this steering rack "slop", worn tie-rod ends, or strut bushings (or a combination)?!?. It is hard to determine what is moving (along with the wheel). What is "acceptable" play....or should it be tight? Any inout is greatly appreciated.

I feel like get a better "feel" if I do that 3 & 9 test with the opposite wheel on the ground. It seems to "anchor" the rack to some extent.

Try it like that and see if you detect any difference between sides. My guess is that the 1/16" (not too bad) will be reduced.
