Rear Calipers wont bleed, even pushing the brake pedal....WTFGDit..... 200

Anyway yeah so I replaced the MC, and went to bleed the brakes, starting at the rear right brake assy. I loosen the bleed port, and no luck, so the FAQ says to pump the brake pedal 1/4 travel, no luck, i pump hard all the way, no luck...i even pulled the port out, no luck.....nothing...aaaaaaa help me my friends and fellow brick owners....Also when i come across the fronts (if i ever can) how do i do multiple ports?

Thanks alot for all the help....

Sad and Distressed,

Robert

One of my bleeder holes was gunked up like Scorch describes. I poked around carefully with an appropriate nail and bled until clean. No problems. Good luck.

You probably have crud in the bleeder valves and/or calipers, deposits or rust from water getting into the system and heating up, steaming, etc. This can get caked up and prevent bleeding even with the valves fully unscrewed.

Do this to check it out: Screw the MC reservoir cap off and put some plastic - a sandwich bag or some kitchen wrap - over the hole and screw the cap back on (this keeps fluid from leaking out with the system open). Then totally take off the bleeder valve. Look at it to see if the little holes that allow the fluid to flow through aren't clogged. If so, take a sharp probe or ice pick small enough to get in there to ream the gunk out. If that's not the problem, take the probe and try poking in the hole where the screw just came out. This is usually where the gunk is. The gunk will probably be right on the outside where the threads are, so you won't have to poke up really high in there with the probe. If the problem is there you will want the valve in your other hand because when you poke through that gunk the fluid will start to flow pretty quickly. Then proceed to bleed as normal.

Scorch,

Here's another way to keep fluid in the MC. You can pull *all* the bleeders and not lose enough fluid to matter. Just use a stick to block the brake pedal down about an inch or so.

It's worked for me for years on 240s. But I recently learned (from the Volvo Brake green book) that you have to put the pedal *way* down on 700/900. It didn't say how far, but the picture looked like it was almost to the floor.

I hope you'll try it some time.

Robert,

You did bleed the MC before you started the brake bleed right? I heard this has nothing to do with it, but the first time I bled my 240, the rear calipers would not let anything out, as soon as I pulled the parking brake off, then they worked, maybe coincidence, but I think it had something to do with it. so take your PB off if it is.

The bleeding sequence goes like this.
left rear
left front (upper chamber)
right front (upper chamber)
right rear
right front (lower chambers, inner first then outer second.)
left front (lower chambers, inner first then outer second.)

You may need to do this cycle more than once to get all the air out after replacing the MC. I just did the MC last sat. (for the second time, warranty replacement) and it took me 3 times to get the air all out!

Good luck.

Dunno but mine says take out the switch on the brake junction block,
the one that turns the light on when there is a brake problem.
Never had a 200 but the 140s and the 164 are all that way.
That allows the blockoff piston to return to center when the pressure
equalizes.
Has your brake fault light illuminated?
