Assuming (always dangerous!) that the new unit is one of the SC- models (What model radio did you take out, and which model is the new one?
If you have a '92 , you probably took out a CR 814, which drives the dash speakers from the head unit and the other four channels from the external amplifier, and has ( in addition to the cd changer cable, amp cable, and antenna) a single 14-pin connector at the head unit and a similar ( but differently wired!) 14-pin connector at the amp. If what you are putting in is an SC unit other than an SC 900 or SC 901, you should have a built-in amplifier putting out about 4 x 20. If you have an SC901, you don't have an internal amp, and will need the external amp.
You can make your own connectors, or go to the Volvo dealer and buy them. You won't get all of what you need at Crutchfield or any other aftermarket adapter supplier that I am aware of, though you can get the adapter plugs to go into the factory harness ( but not the plugs for the back of the head unit).
There is a display and explanation of the SC-type pin -outs on Bay 13; there are numerous discussions of the pin-outs for the 89-92 series radios and amps here on the bboard.
You may run into the need for physical adaptation of the interior of the radio console to put the later radio in--let me know what you find and how you did it,please.

We have a 92 960 wagon. When we purchased it, it had the factory AM/FM tape. I purchased a CD/MP3 unit and install kit from Crutchfield and am very satisfied. You will find that it is almost mandatory to buy a wiring diagram and not one of the generic ones either! I found a factory diagram on eBay and it is a life saver!. The factory radio connections all go out to a amp under the bolster on the drivers side. The only direct connection from the radio is to the 2 top front speakers (dash) which don't get amplified since they are so small. My advise is forget about the whole factory radio crap and buy a good radio from wherever..Circuit City, eBay, Best Buy,etc. And buy 4 good door speakers and 2 tweeters to replace the dash speakers. The only way i was able to get nice bass response out of our car was to install a small amplified bass tube behind the rear seat and just disconnect it and remove it if it ever got in the way due to luggage, groceries, kids, etc.... If you do decide to go the aftermarket route, look for a unit that has a output for a power antenna. If you don't get that option, and mine doesn't have, you will need to wire the A+ going to the ant(coming out of the factory radio) to the switched B+ going to the new radio. The ant will go up whenever you turn the car on but the ant switch on the dash will still operate and you can lower it that way. Good Luck!
