genuine Volvo parts 200

Does anyone know of a website to get prices on geniune Volvo parts. It would be good to be able to compare genuine vs aftermarket when shopping for parts.

Try giving Swedish Engineering a call: http://www.swedishengineering.com/

I have worked with them for years and am very happy with them. They can get you any oem part and their shipping is fast. If I place an order on Monday I usually have it by Thursday. Their pricing is very competitive as well.

They often both OEM and aftermarkets parts. Just make sure they know that you want OEM.

    genuine Volvo parts (Terminology) 200

Parts from the Dealer are "Original Equipment", aka OE or Genuine Volvo

"Original Equipment Manufacturer" OEM parts are (supposedly) from a company that "manufactures" Volvo (OE) parts.

I think "OEM" is used very loosely and has become meaningless jargon in the aftermarket trade. Some are, some aren't. How to tell?

Does "alloemvolvo" peddle Scan-Tech and MTC parts? Bogus, IMO.

One small cheer for Scan Tech 200

I know that Scan Tech has taken their lumps in various threads on this board. Buuuuut...

I ordered some stuff recently from FCP Groton, and among it was front cornering lenses both sides for my 1992. They listed Scan Tech and they were only $20 each so I decided to take a chance.

They fit fine and look fine. In fact they look exactly like the originals. Now my only problem is that the headlight lenses look a little yellow next to them.

Hmmmm. Someone said aluminum polish. I've tried Meguiar's plexiglas polish and that didn't help--so I'll give the aluminum polish a careful try.

Doug, despite being warned they will cloud up in a year, I also bought a couple of the scan tech corner lamps. They look nice and fit well. And I've no worry about them leaking. The price is right; I could not find the Volvo lenses for less than twice as much.

Now I'd like to hear a good way to redeposit the reflective film inside the headlight. Luckily I have no cars suffering from the yellowing; I got rid of the Dodge Caravan last year.

One small cheer for Scan Tech 200

        Doug,

I hope your Scan-Tech lenses work out OK. I've seen posts about inexpensive aftermarket lenses yellowing quickly. But I don't recall brand.

I did however get "bit" on Scan-Tech 245 Tail Light assembly. It looked great—colors, finish, etc. But it fit the car's contours so poorly that I had to run 3 beads of sealant to fill the void at the top, between the light and the car body, to prevent a massive leak into the tire well.

I had to leave it that way because my daughter was headed back to Mass., hoping to pass a failed inspection (that light was one item).

And I returned a S-T Harmonic Balancer (Crank Pulley) because the casting was so badly finished (like NO finish work) that the Volvo holding tool couldn't be used.

To my knowledge S-T doesn't make parts for Volvo, so if you ever see OEM and Scan-Tech as implied synonyms, I'd be suspicious. I'm not sure that I ever have, but OEM has little meaning for me anymore, so I tend to ignore it.

Bruce, you said "To my knowledge S-T doesn't make parts for Volvo." Right on, and full agreement. I'd like to go you one further and say my bet is S-T doesn't make parts period. They just put them in boxes and bags.

One small jeer for Scan Tech 200

Art, I couldn't agree more. Wish I knew the source of the "German Made" hydraulic mounts I put on the 940. They raised the motor OK but did nothing to quell the annoying rpm-related vibration that still plagues me. I replaced them with OE after about 4 months and got a HUGE improvement—to where it would probably bother few but the chronically anal. (It's still there. IT IS!)

Regina Greenbook (Fault Tracing) says signal from "lambdasond" should "vary between 0.1V and 1.2V". It shows a waveform of that range, but no time base. The flat tops are (shown as) being 6 "squares" wide, with the 1.2 V amplitude being 8 squares high, and transitions at 1 square, with all corners rounded. No idea how realistic that is, but thought you might make some sense of it.

At any rate, it seems I should see something with a meter, closed loop. But not until it warms up. It was -25°f this morning. Now a balmy -5°. The Regina must have had that Cold Start fix. It started 2 days ago at -5° very fast—like 1 - 2 - Running. Felt/sounded like 2 compression strokes, then ignition.

One small jeer for Scan Tech 200

Bruce, your "jeer" has me in stitches. So far the only Scan-Tech disappointment I've suffered has been the taillights they source from Taiwan, and those are at least easier to get at than hydraulic motor mounts.

I must admit almost complete ignorance of the 940. "Grandma's 944" just doesn't see enough of me or vice versa for me to know anything about the features that make it distinct from my 240s. Other than the separating harmonic balancer, which I replaced via 2-day air Scan-Tech from CT, I've not needed or had the opportunity to do fix much. She's owned the '92 a year next week. Looking at my log book, I've fixed an intermittent temp gauge by replacing the sender, stretched the regulator spring in the power steering pump as an attempt to boost the assist, and oh!, I see here I looked at the O2 sensor output after a high nox emissions test and wrote a comment that it was good (so it must not look that different from zirconia system), changed the radius rod bushings for a bit of slop in the steering, and resoldered the turn signal flasher circuit board when that quit. Other than that it was just lamps and fluids all year.

Well, if I didn't notice a difference in the sensor output, it must cycle at about one crossing per second or slightly better, and fairly symmetric duty-cycle-wise. It doesn't say in my notes whether I connected the scope, but I usually do, so I'm surprised I didn't see excursions above 1V and wonder about that. I had no idea at the time I was looking at a Titania sensor!

The only thing I needed to do to get it to pass emissions was clear FI fault codes 132 (battery voltage), 311 (speed sensor missing) (aha says Jim Holst), and 223 (idle air sig). I had the car for a few days and the codes did not return, so I ran it through the state's dyno test and it passed with lots of margin. Seen the car once since then, and all diags reported are 111.

              This look familiar?

        Well, we'll see ... 200

The ST corner lenses for my 245, which was purchased in mid-2000, have yellowed so badly beyond the headlights that even with the 21w blinker lit, it's not much more than a glow. I've since removed them a few months ago, and in it's place, the original chipped OEM one and a NOS scantech I picked up for $2. That has since turned yellowish too.

Problem that I see is that the plastic is not UV stable enough. Los Angeles air has gotten a bit cleaner, so we have less smog now to block the UV.

-- Kane ... who's already figured out that Angeleno's will have to make a choice - die by lung cancer from smog, or die from skin cancer from a thinned out ozone layer and a clean air.

I buy all my VOLVO OEM parts from Borton Volvo (borton.com), they always give me a great discount.

I have found that many/most of the online sites DO NOT sell all Volvo OEM parts as they indicate. Some sell a mix of Volvo OEM and OEM "compatible" parts (i,e, Scan-Tech, Boge, etc...). Beware what you are getting and be clear it you want VOLVO OEM parts.

      yeap...but 200

some of the stuff they carry is not OEM. I have ordered [arts from them in the past and were not OEM....my local parts stores sell them. I think it's a marketing gimmick. Don't get me wrong though, the stuff is good. I haven't had anything fail on me...yet!

Also, NewandUsedVolvoparts.com is like AllOEM but it's cheaper. It is also known as Frank's Foreign Auto, and Frank is an awesome guy... My 2cents...
