Half Price Bilstein Touring Struts 900

FYI: I don’t know if this is a clerical error or what… but check out your favorite online parts source that is supplied by WorldPac (use their online catalog). Bilstein Touring Class FRONT struts for a Volvo 940/740 are about half price.

If you’re in the market for front struts for your brick, now would be the time to order. (mine arrived at my house yesterday)

'Close-Out' Prices Maybe? 900

I put BT inserts and shocks in my 940 last summer. In the first month, one of the shocks leaked a puddle on the floor. FCP replaced it, no problem.

Since then there have been posts saying the upper shock mounting hole is oversize. This allows movement and noise going over choppy pavement ("parking lot rattles"). This has bugged me for months.

Last week I went to see if I could torque down more on the top nut, I discovered that BOTH rears were leaking. Not as bad as the first one, but plain to see on the lower tube.

The strut inserts feel OK, but who knows?

I've got to contact FCP on this. My advice is buyer beware.

P.S. FWIW, I saw a post today saying BTs are being made in Romania.

I got mine from FCPgroton.com for $35 each. I just checked their site and the price is now $52. The Bilstein Touring Class inserts feel very much like the original Volvo(Boge) inserts.

At FCP Groton's online catalog -- http://www.foreigncarpartsonline.com -- the same part is $34.40. (this is for front strut inserts)

As I originally said: It's probably a a clerical error -- but that's the price I paid for mine!

That is the price I paid for mine as well. I forgot to mention they have two web sites often with different prices. fcpgroton.com and foreigncarpartsonline.com

Dear Jeff,

Good p.m. When quoting prices and discounts, it helps to have:
(a) the original price
(b) the quoted price
(c) the item number
In that way, the situation is obvious.

Is $52 their ordinary price? If so, then there's no rush to order.

Does the price - whatever it is/was - cover the insert, or the entire assembly?

Is there any reason to buy the entire assembly?

When was the $34.40 price available? Is it still available, or has it been superseded by the $52 price.

Help!!

Yours faithfully,

spook

There is an online wholesaler that supplies the product and an online catalog to 90% of the online parts retailers -- that wholesaler is WorldPac. (you can recognise this by noting the "WorldPac" emblem in the lower corner of the photos that you can view online.) When you go to one of these retail sites, their "online catalog" links you to the WorldPac site (without you knowing it) where you can order your product. That's why all the menues on the retail sites look the same and have the same info: because they're all connecting you to the same location.
If you go to www.fcpgroton.com, you do not get linked to WorldPac. However, if you go to FCP Groton's other site ( www.foreigncarparsonline.com ) you WILL be connected to WorldPac, and can order from there. At this very moment, the price of front strut inserts for a 700/900 car at www.foreigncarparsonline.com is $34.40.

Dear Jeff,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. Forgive my ignorance, but do you refer to:

Front Strut Insert (all models) 85-94 Bilstein, Touring Class for $52 each?

If so, please confirm.

Is it possible and/or wise to use Bilstein Touring struts and Heavy duty shocks (in a 940 wagon), or does one have to use the same grade all around?

Thanks for your guidance. I'm much obliged.

Yours faithfully,

spook

We're talking strut inserts which is usually all you will need. I did need to use a mapp torch to heat the glans nut holding the cartridge in the strut assembly and use a 24' pipe wrench with the assembly in a vice to loosen my original glans nut.
