OK - main fuel pump installed, car is getting spark, still no start...? 200 1986

I have installed the new pump and I can hear it whirring as I try to start the car.

the engiine is now turning over as well as cranking,

I have confirmed that I have spark (center wire from distributor close to drivers side hood hinge shows spark when turning over - thank God!)

it is acting like a bad AMM - it will crank, turn over, run for a second then stop.

could I not yet have enough fuel pressure?

could my timing belt be broken?

any other options (I think the battery is getting low from several attempts to start it over the past few days?)?

thanks,

I got home and checked for leaks and was tightening up the bracket et al....

tried starting it NO START!

started over from the beginning...

checked for voltage at the pump .... this time NO VOLTAGE??????

thought there might be a break in the wiring so I followed the wiring up to the back seat floor AND FOUND

I HADN'T TIGHTENED THE GROUND AFTER PUTTING IN MY SOUND ABSORPTIVE MATTING earlier that week.

I won't go into the feelings I'm experiencing right now because it wouldn't be healthy for my psyche.

I will just go get the gun (which won't be healthy for my psyche)

the whole problem from the beginning was a loose ground which gave me a false positive the first and only time I checked it.

so now I know how to replace the main fuel pump, and I shouldn't have to worry about it for some time.

but somehow that just doesn't change the fact

THAT I AM AN IDIOT.

Disconnect the connector to the AMM (with ignition off), if it starts and idles fine but has lousy acceleration it is a bad AMM.

Take the oil filler cap off have someone crank the engine over and see if the cam shaft is turning.

crank was turning, amm disconnected still no start

we confirmed fuel past the filter...

then opened up the FPR - after about 10 seconds of cranking fuel finally started spilling out...

hooked back up and started right up!!!
