On a '89 740 Turbo Wagon, 115K miles:
I'm attempting to replace the rear transmission seal and bushing. The bolts that connect the flange to the drivetrain seem impossible to access. They are made up of 4 sets of a 15mm bolt, and (I think) a 17mm nut on the other side. The 15mm bolt head is more accessible, but since it's the bolt do I not have to attack the 17mm nut? The thing is that the nut on one side is flush against the flange, not allowing it to turn (and obviously not allowing any tool around it). Is this intentionally so, and I must go after the 15mm bolt? If so, what tool do I use to get the leverage I need to get these guys loose? They seem very tight, and access around the bolt head is very limited.
Anyone who has done this, please let me know how you did it. TIA.
