Hi,

I have a 1993 940. The newer 850's and S70's, and of course all new Volvo's, apparently have a in-cabin air filter system. And the new cars have a system that automatically tests the air quality and recirculates the air if needed. Anyway, I was told that some of the older cars dating back to 1993 could be retro-fitted with a in-cabin air filter??? Is this possible on a 1993 940. I thought I was told no, but wanted to check with all of you.

    I suppose it wouldn’t be too hard to replace the filter from under the cowl, as long as it doesn’t have to be changed out more than once a year. A correct sized cone/cylinder shaped air cleaner would fit in there. Post back if you find one.

    For a short while it was possible to buy a cabin filter here in Sweden at an aftermarket chain.
    The mounting sucked, you had too loosen the cowling between the windshield and the hood, and the fitting above the fan was lousy.
    I don't think you can find these filters anymore and they probably were never offered by anyone in the US.

    Check with Nick at FCPGroten. He sells a cabin filter holder/filter for the 850 that is installed under the cowl on the passenger side in the fan intake. He can tell you if this unit will fit the 960
