tire question,185-70-14 88H vs. 88T? 200

My local boneyard has free used tires.I picked up 2 185-70-14 88S(same brand) and 2 185-70-14,one 88H and one 88T.I know the T stands for touring, what does the H stand for?
I am going to put the matching pair on front and the mismatch on the rear. They are going on a '90 240 sedan.

Moreso than how much tread is still usable, check the manufacturing dates on 'em too. The older the tires are, the more bound they are to separate because of age degradation.

Recently, we had to get rid of a set of Uniroyals off my Dad's truck. 9/32" tread left, but on the way back from the home improvment warehouse (which is mostly what the truck is used for, so it sees all of about 500 miles/year), he felt a strong vibration. Checked when he got back home, it was tread separation. The tires were made in 1995.

IMHO, unless you really can't afford new ones, I'd shy away from tires with unknown histories. Everything that makes the car go, stop, and turn, depends on those 4 pieces of rubber.

Would it be correct to say the 'H' stands for "hurling" instead of touring?

      Sorry, I could not resist............

The "T" & "H" are the maximum "Speed Ratings" for the tire.
"T" is rated for a maximum of 118 mph.
"H" is rated for a maximum of 130 mph.
