Sour milk smell in carpets 700

Help!

Spilled milk on the rug of my 760 and despite cleaning I am ready to gag from the smell everytime I get in.

Any advice?

RC

Many years ago this happened to a Subaru wagon we had. The carpet in the back was glued to the floor so it could not be taken out to be cleaned. Tried many things, nothing worked and the smell just did not abate with time. Finally heard about using white vinegar (which is also inexpensive and people usually have it one hand anyway). Put some in a spray bottle and spritzed. Did two or three light applications as I recall and the smell disappeared completely.

I had the same problem with an old Ford. Every winter for a couple of years, when the heater was turned on, the passenger side front carpet would smell like sour milk, due to my dad spilling a pint of the white stuff on it.

A good scrub with some liquid disinfectant (Dettol) got rid of it!

spray on some of that pet-zyme (not sure about the spelling, and there are other brands) stuff that uses bacterial action to break down urine (just like at the waste water treatment plant). You can get it at pet stores or in the pet section of the supermarket. I used it on my back seat when my son's friend threw up on it and it took care of it and left no evidence of the tragedy. May take several applications, and place a wet rag over the area to keet it moist. When the "food" is gone, the bacteria die.
